The Pitt News: College Dems across nation call for college student rescue checks

More than 20 of the country’s statewide College Democrats groups called Thursday for Congress to extend economic rescue checks to all American adult dependents in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The coalition is encouraging Congress to support and fast-track H.R. 6420, the All Dependent Children Count Act, sponsored by Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn. The bill would expand eligibility for relief checks to children younger than 19, students 24 and younger and no age limit for adults who are disabled. It currently has nearly 150 cosponsors, both Democratic and Republican, in the House.

Rep. Abby Finkenauer, D-Iowa, on April 28 announced the introduction of the Clean Fuels Deployment Act of 2020. The bill aims to provide funding for installing and converting fuel pump infrastructure to deliver higher blends of ethanol and biodiesel. The bipartisan legislation is cosponsored by Reps. Right now, doctors and nurses are working tirelessly around the clock, often without the equipment they need to save lives. Grocery workers and small businesses are keeping the lights on to provide essential goods and services to our families. Truckers and farmers are making sure there is food to sustain us. Teachers and professors are innovating to keep our education system going. My own son is working in a factory manufacturing the parts for ventilators.

Minnesota Daily: Rep. Craig, Sen. Smith introduce bill to include students in COVID-19 relief package

University of Minnesota students, as well as state and federal officials, are aiming to include millions of college students and their families in the largest economic stimulus package in U.S. history. The $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act passed by Congress late last month included one-time payments of $1,200 to all adults earning less than $75,000 per year along with an additional $500 for dependent children under 17. U.S. Rep. Angie Craig and U.S. Sen. Tina Smith introduced legislation that would expand compensation to parents of college students who are dependents.
