Angie Craig Showcases Bipartisan Record in MPR Debate

ST. PAUL – U.S. Representative Angie Craig showcased her bipartisan record of results and commitment to protecting abortion rights in today’s debate with her Republican opponent Joe Teirab.

“Right now, I’m ranked the 6th most independent member of the Democratic party in the country. And where I’ve broken with my own party has been around law enforcement issues, it’s been around border security and it’s been on behalf of my family farmers,” said Rep. Craig in her closing remarks. “I’ve proven – I don’t have to promise – I’ve proven already that I will be an independent voice for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District.”

Rep. Craig is the 6th most independent Democratic Member of the House based on the number of votes she has taken against her party leadership. She voted against the Biden Administration 30% of the time in 2023. Nearly 80% of the nearly 600 pieces of legislation she supports are also supported by a Republican.

Rep. Craig has publicly opposed the Biden Administration’s policies on border security, public safety and agriculture issues.

In contrast, Teirab parroted Washington Republican talking points throughout the debate, lied about Rep. Craig’s bipartisan record and failed to clearly define his views on abortion.

Joe Teirab has a personal goal to make abortion “go away.” He is on the board of a crisis pregnancy center here in Minnesota that offers “abortion pill reversal” treatments which are not based in science.

He has promised Minnesota’s largest pro-life organization that he will let state politicians continue to ban abortion with no exceptions. Currently 10 states have enacted abortion bans with no exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother. If Republicans take control of the state government in Minnesota, the same thing could happen here.

In this survey, Teirab also committed to recognizing a federal role in abortion policy: promising to vote for legislation that would restrict access to mifepristone and collect data on women who use it. He also promised to vote against any legislation that would weaken any pro-life law or policy in effect the day he is elected.
