FORUM: Tyler Kistner Refused to Denounce National Abortion Ban, for Second Time

September 20, 2022

Last week, Kistner called Sen. Graham’s bill “reasonable”

Burnsville, MN — In last night’s candidate forum, Republican candidate for MN-02 Tyler Kistner strategically dodged a direct question as to whether he supports a national abortion ban for the second time in a week.

“A woman’s right to choose, or abortion, has become a national issue, it’s become a state issue, and it’s one of the center points of this campaign on both sides. Last week, Lindsey Graham, Senator from South Carolina, introduced a bill that I believe you called ‘reasonable’ that would ban abortion after 15 weeks on a federal level. You’ve also said that you thought that the federal government should stay out of a woman’s right to choose or regulating abortion. Can you state for our listeners and viewers your current position on abortion and a woman’s right to choose?” asked moderator Blois Olson.

Kistner did not dispute his characterization of Sen. Graham’s abortion ban that would criminalize doctors in all 50 states and refused to say directly how he would vote on a nationwide abortion ban despite pledging to support abortion restrictions if he were elected to Congress.

Last week, Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham introduced a nationwide abortion ban which would criminalize doctors and nurses. When Fox 9 asked Kistner whether he supported it, he called it “reasonable.”

“There is nothing ‘reasonable’ about criminalizing doctors for providing medical care and forcing them to put their patients’ lives at risk. If the GOP’s national abortion ban goes into effect, doctors will go to jail and women will die. That’s not reasonable, it’s dangerous and un-American,” said Angie Craig for Congress campaign manager Wellesley Daniels
