MINNEAPOLIS — A former Minnesota congressman is backing U.S. Rep. Angie Craig in her campaign for a seat in the Senate.
According to a press release from Craig’s campaign Wednesday, Sept. 10, Craig was endorsed by former U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson. Peterson, a Democrat, represented western Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 to 2021.
“Minnesota needs Democrats like Angie Craig—leaders who aren’t afraid to go anywhere or talk to anyone,” Peterson said in the press release. “I’m proud to endorse Angie for the U.S. Senate because she’s the only candidate in this race who can deliver the results Minnesotans urgently need. Angie stands up for what’s right and brings the kind of principled leadership we need in the Senate.”
Craig is one candidate vying to fill a seat that Democratic Sen. Tina Smith will leave at the end of her term.
Craig is seeking Democratic-Farmer-Labor party endorsement against Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Billy Nord.
Among Republicans, multiple candidates are competing for the GOP endorsement: Royce White, Adam Schwarze, Tom Weiler, Alycia Gruenhagen, Raymond Petersen and Mike Ruoho.
Unaffiliated candidate Marisa Simonetti has also launched a campaign.
