Craig Highlights Family Story and Her Work to Lower the Cost of Health Care for Minnesota Families

Today, U.S. Representative Angie Craig released her first ad of the cycle, “Mom,” in which she shares her personal story of growing up in a family that struggled to access affordable health care – highlighting her work in Congress to stand up for Minnesota working families by lowering the out-of-pocket costs for health care for her constituents.

“For far too many Americans, hard work doesn’t pay off like it used to. College is unaffordable, technical training is unavailable, health care costs too much and wages can’t keep up with the high cost of raising a family,” said Representative Craig. “I believe we can – and must – do better. These days, far too many lawmakers are content to sit back and play politics with people’s livelihoods. In Congress, I’m fighting day in and day out to rebuild an economy that works for all Minnesotans.”

Angie was raised by a single mom in a mobile home park, where she watched her mom work hard to complete her teaching degree over nine years while raising three kids. Like her mother, Angie worked two jobs and took out student loans to put herself through college. She started her career as a newspaper reporter and worked her way up over 20 years in business to lead a workforce of 16,000 for a major Minnesota manufacturer.

“I’m Angie Craig. My mom always said, ‘things can get tough, but you can never give up.’ She raised us pretty much on her own. Sometimes, we went without health insurance and the bills piled up. I worked two jobs too. It’s why I’m fighting to make health care more affordable and lower prescription drug costs.

I’m Angie Craig, and I approved this message because I’ll never stop fighting to give everyone a fair shot.”
