Tyler Kistner’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Press Conference

October 17, 2022

Burnsville, MN – Today, during a press conference at the State Capitol, Tyler Kistner tried to announce an “investigation” into Rep. Angie Craig, but reporters were more interested in hearing about the plethora of ethics quandaries surrounding Kistner himself.

  • The mysterious Delaware-based consulting firm where Kistner “works”
    • Kistner refused to release the client list for his Delaware-based consulting firm. When pressed he said “I only help out small businesses” and refused to provide any details at all. The firm has no online presence or publicly available background information.
    • Kistner’s 2022 personal financial disclosure, which he filed two months late, showed that his only earned income during the 2022 campaign cycle came from this mystery consulting firm and questionably high mileage reimbursements.
  • His refusal to state that Joe Biden legitimately won the 2020 election
    • When asked if Trump won the 2020 election, Kistner deflected, saying only that “Joe Biden is the President” and “President Biden is in the White House.”
    • Kistner did not answer the question or say that Joe Biden won the 2020 election.
    • When pressed, Kistner campaign consultant Billy Grant called the question “ridiculous” and ended the press conference.
  • His campaign’s dependence on special interest money and outside spending
    • GOP outside groups have spent or have reserved $10.3M on TV and radio. That money comes from Big Pharma, Big Oil, billionaires, and big insurance companies, and proponents of a national ban on abortions that would change the laws in Minnesota.

“Only Tyler Kistner would think it a good idea to host a press conference on a bogus investigation after a year of hiding from the press,” said Angie Craig for Congress campaign manager Wellesley Daniels. “Every time he tries this, our campaign refutes his claims with evidence. Where is Kistner’s evidence when it comes to his consulting clients, travel logs and suing to overturn the 2020 election?”

Kistner called today’s press conference to “investigate” Rep. Craig for what he called a “possible violation” of federal law related to a franked mailer sent out by Rep. Craig’s official office. These accusations are baseless and unfounded. The Craig campaign has provided reporters with receipts that show the mailer was submitted in compliance with House guidelines and approved by the bipartisan House Franking Commission.
