Following GOP Smears, Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie Sets the Record Straight on Angie’s Law Enforcement Record

October 15, 2022

Sheriff Leslie: “When it comes to keeping families safe, no one fights harder than Angie Craig. Anyone who says different is straight up lying to you.”

Burnsville, MN – Following GOP smears, Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie sets the record straight on Rep. Angie Craig’s law enforcement record and highlights her work to support public safety in a new ad, “Safe.”

In a rare public endorsement, Sheriff Leslie emphasizes Rep. Craig’s efforts to secure additional funding for departments to address staffing shortages and engage in community policing efforts. He also points to her record of standing up to her own party on behalf of Minnesota law enforcement.

“Sheriff Leslie has always been there for me over my two terms in Congress, and I’ve done everything I can to be there to support law enforcement officers in the Second District,” said Rep. Craig. “I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish together, grateful for his endorsement and I will continue to do everything I can to provide our officers with the resources and support they need as they work to keep our communities safe.”

Last month, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association – the largest law enforcement association representing rank and file officers in the state of Minnesota – proudly endorsed Rep. Craig this cycle after having endorsed Tyler Kistner in the 2020 race to represent the Second District. Rep. Craig has also been endorsed by retired Hastings Police Chief Bryan Schafer.

In Congress, Rep. Craig has consistently voted to support public safety, fund Minnesota police departments and deliver results. In Congress, Rep. Craig:

  • Was the first member of the Minnesota Congressional Delegation to oppose the ballot initiative to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department.
  • Currently supports Community-Oriented Policing grants to hire more officers in four South Metro cities.
  • Got her bipartisan Public Safety Officer Support Act signed into law to expand support for officers facing mental health struggles and help their families access their benefits.
  • Passed the bipartisan Invest to Protect Act to increase funding for small and mid-sized police departments.
